This text starts when the legal founding of Houses of Hope Minsitries International is established. Off course there is a history behind the history. You can read this on the Founder page.

In 2005 in Suriname, House of Hope Ministries Intl. Suriname Foundation was established and in a church service of the HICC church Wim and Sonja were inaugurate and send out to Suriname. This was done by pastors of:

  • Hilversum International Christian Centre (HICC), (now Thousand Hills Hilversum International)
  • Full Gospel Church Living Water Lelystad
  • Jonah church Ede

Suriname

Having arrived in Suriname, all doors indeed opened and they were regularly invited to several churches for speaking engagements; sometimes several in one day. In 2007, they were invited by an interdenominational ministry to work within this team in Santa Boma prison. They also open the first family replacement home for boys between the ages of six and 12, taking in boys between six and 14. Most of them were children of detainees.

In October of the same year, the first ex-convict man came to work full time. He had indicated that God had made it clear to him to come and cooperate in the Ministry of House of Hope Intl. Suriname. The pastors couple allowed him to attend an interdenominational Bible school. After completing this, he was given the opportunity to study further and he chose applied psychology. He then got the opportunity to pursue teacher training at Antonie Kom University in Paramaribo. In early 2008, he was ordained as a pastor. In late 2008, the pastor we blessed married.

In 2008, through contacts with Ministry of Justice/Delinquent Care, the House of Hope team was invited to give block study and counselling to Christian prisoners in Duisburg prison and later in Santa Boma. This was prompted by a letter from Rev. Wim Odendaal to the Ministry of Justice because his experience in prisons in Peru had shown that conversion through evangelisation in prisons does not guarantee that prisoners will not fall back into the old behavioural pattern after release.

We lay a foundation through special study’s and counselling and building relationships with men who have become Christians in prison. This is important because even in Suriname, one can hardly speak of probation and often falls into a hole after release.

House of Hope Suriname has been providing outpatient assistance since 2008 and since 2012 has provided temporary shelter, in-house counselling, spiritual and social/social and in-house training for ex-convict men to gradually reintegrate them back into Surinamese society. In addition to the shelter, the pastoral team set up a self-support agricultural project.

In November 2009, Rev. Wim Odendaal was invited to speak at an International Apostolic- Prophetic Conference in Peru. On the last day of this conference, he was anointed and set apart by the laying on of hands and Ordained as the Apostle of Houses of Hope Ministries International.

In 2010, the pastor couple we consecrated decided to go in a different direction and the cooperation with Houses of Hope Ministries Suriname was terminated

In consultation with the Ministry of Social Affairs, it was decided in the spring of 2011 to discontinue childcare and give aid to children in need in other ways.

During 2011, Apostle Wim Odendaal and the Houses of Hope Ministries Suriname team started a homework assistance project for the children of the village of Pikin- Slee in Upper Suriname. In October of 2012, the government of Suriname decided to take responsibility for the homework supervision of all schools in Suriname and we could hand over our project with peace of mind.

In November 2011, Brother Ronny Vaarnold was appointed by Rev. Wim. Odendaal and by the Board of Houses of Hope Ministries International as director of Houses of Hope Ministries Suriname. In December 2012, he was set apart and blessed for this ministry by Rev. Wim Odendaal and Apostle Eric Tjin Kon Kiem in a service of Tabernacle Faith Hope and Love. Brother Ronny was before a member of the above congregation. Since, he is working full-time in the ministry of Houses of Hope Ministries Int. Suriname.

At the end of 2012, Houses of Hope Ministries Suriname received a donation so that in early 2013 a start could be made to develop 2 hectares of agricultural land belonging to the house and to provide the necessary finances to develop the various parts of the vision.

In 2013, Ronny Vaarnold was ordained as Pastor of Houses of Hope Ministries Int. Suriname in Amsterdam, Netherlands by Rev. Wim Odendaal and a number of pastors from other churches. In this year, the Ministry of Houses of Hope Ministries Int Suriname was handed over to Pastor Ronny Vaarnold. They work together with Prisons Fellowship International/ Suriname and with the Ministry of Justice and Police in Suriname.
